Weekly recipe roundup 20
Weekly recipe roundup 20 has appeared! Looking back at my Instagram the past few weeks I have realised I have made the same thing multiple times. Obviously, this won’t do and I shall have to start making other things. These things I have been making are some of my favourite things; pizza, lemon drizzle cake and sourdough bread – but diversity is the name of the game! I also noticed that the picture background situation is going to have to be resolved. There is limit to how many times I can use the blue and white checked teacloth for base!
I decided to start doing a bit more with my sourdough starter as it has been on the backburner for a while. The instructions to make your own, you will find here. The way to tell if your starter is ready is to drop a teaspoon of it into a glass of water. If it floats, then it is ready to use, if it sinks then either it has a way to go or you have missed the window! I have had the sinking starter situation a few times before, and it is irritating! I started to use a Lock & Lock container and the marks on the side tell me when it has doubled in size and probably ready to use!
I used the starter to make a sourdough boule, the recipe for which is here. I think that the starter needs to be used a bit more and spend a little less time in the fridge chilling. There isn’t much to fault about it, although maybe it could be baked longer to achieve a darker crust.
I needed to retake some of my old photos, so used this as an opportunity to make one of my favourites. You will find the recipe for it over here. This time I sprinkled the top with some golden granulated sugar for an extra bit of crunch. I think next time I will try Demerara sugar. The granulated sugar wasn’t bad at all, but I want to taste the difference. I am not in the camp of using icing sugar to top the lemon drizzle – I think it is perfect as is. I would top a lemon Bundt cake with icing however.
Pizza of the accidental variety
As I mentioned in my blog post earlier, I hadn’t been planning on making a pizza. I don’t really like throwing part of the starter away every time I feed it, so I decided to use it. I had no issues making the base, but when it came to forming it, we had problems. It was a lot stickier than a normal pizza base, so I believe I need to work on it some more. Still, the toppings worked very well together, and the poor pizza didn’t last long.
As I mentioned in my blog post here, I spent the day looking to the future. I purchased my domain that will be selling from, but I now need to start setting it up. This includes looking for a good WooCommerce theme that won’t require too many plugins. Along with this, I need to work on getting a suitable logo and with this, a colour scheme.
I made this little post so that I could link my site to Bloglovin.
Reactivation of my starter
The 13th month anniversary of my starter made me realise it had not been used enough recently. This led to the post on storage of the starter over here. No doubt this will require going in-depth later on, but this was just a primer, if anything!
This wraps up the weekly recipe roundup 20! End of this week is Easter, so expect simnel cake and hot cross buns!
