Weekly recipe roundup 19
It is time for the weekly recipe roundup 19! I am pretty sure that the weeks seem to be speeding up. Possibly the past three weeks have been somewhat busy, what with my grandmother’s birthday, my mum’s birthday and Mother’s Day. I made a couple of teatime treats this week, after the discovery of an old pot of Golden Syrup. This discovery put me onto the road of flapjacks, which is a pretty good road to be on, in my opinion.
I haven’t had homemade flapjacks in quite a few years, so when this occurred to me, I decided to remedy the situation. You can see the recipe here. You definitely will need to use greaseproof paper when making these, ideally with bit of extra paper each side to aid in the extraction of the flapjacks.
I didn’t load a picture anywhere, but I made a quick loaf of bread during the week. The weather was bad and the supply of bread was short, so I bravely stepped into the kitchen and baked a loaf! There is something relaxing about the bread making process that is very enjoyable and I urge you all to have a go. I will remember to take a decent picture and get a recipe up soon!
This is something I can’t afford to make too often – at least for my waistline’s sake. You will find the recipe posted here. I only ran into a couple of problems, or issues. Firstly I used a square cake tray to bake the shortbread in. Thankfully I had lined it with greaseproof paper, so I could remove the shortbread without too much drama. I definitely need to get a shallower tray for next time I make these. Secondly, my chocolate tempering doesn’t seem to exist. I know this will come with more practice, but this time around it didn’t have a shiny surface, it was a dull finish. This didn’t take away from the actual taste, only the look.
I mentioned Yummly last week, but this week I submitted the millionaire shortbread to Foodgawker and also to another website. The second site is still pending publishing, but publishing to Foodgawker proved rather a success. To this end, I will start to remake some of my older recipes and retake the pictures now that I am starting to improve the final images.
