Weekly recipe roundup 13
Weekly recipe roundup 13 has arrived! Some may consider this as unlucky, but I have never read too much into that sort of stuff. I made some more bread this week – this is something I would like to get back to baking regularly. I am not concerned if it’s just a regular loaf or something a bit more fancy.
Apricot and walnut bread
I threw this bread together at the beginning of the week with some things that I had around the kitchen. The recipe for it is here and it turned out really well! Spread with a little butter and it was perfect. I can’t think of any issues I ran into when making this, maybe the only thing I would change is the actual shape. This is only a minor point, and doesn’t affect the overall taste.
This is a constituent part to many pastry and tart fillings, and should be practiced! The recipe for it is over here. It is not hard to make and you can make a large batch of it and use it in many pastries. Along with adding different flavourings to the creme, you can fold in whipped cream, cream cheese or custard to change the overall texture.
Mille feuille are a delicious treat at tea time, and aren’t too complicated to make! The recipe here is the slightly easier version to make, as there is no topping of icing involved. This time around I used store bought puff pastry, which certainly gave a great result. On the whole, the results were very good. I went with a plain icing sugar topping, next time around I will be using icing for a topping. I didn’t pipe the filling quite close enough to the edge as the filling didn’t quite ooze as far as I would have liked.
I made this blog post earlier this week with a couple of plans I want to do this year. I am going to be baking some things from around the different counties in England every month. Along with this I am going to start making granola in the coming months. This obviously has nothing to do with pastries or pies, however, it is an itch I feel I must scratch!
