How to finely dice an onion!
Here is the method I use on how to finely dice an onion. I was considering doing a separate page for this, but this seems like a better way of doing it!
I remove the outer layer of skin, then chop end off opposite the root. I cut the onion in half down the centre, through the root.
I make cuts toward the root, the closer they are together the finer the end result. Make a cut roughly parallel to the cutting surface through the top the onion.
Rotate the onion by ninety degrees and start slicing all the way through. The closer the slices, the finer the end product.
Continue to cut the onion toward the root. When it gets hard to chop, rotate the onion another ninety degrees and continue to chop.
If you want rougher chops, then spread the initial cuts farther apart, along with the next cuts. This will leave you with larger chunks which are ideal for casseroles. If you are wanting slices, then don’t do the initial cuts towards the root, just do the slices across the onion half. I have found this method to be a lot quicker than how I used to chop onions.
